Growing turnips is significantly more demanding than other crops in Minecraft. Turnips only grow under specific conditions and require constant irrigation. Only then, after several days, will they develop into fully grown turnips that you can sell to Hogy at the Skyblock spawn. The effort is well worth it, though, with a bit of luck, you can make a serious profit at the Turnip Market.

The Turnip Market creates daily fluctuating prices for turnips. Behind this lies a complex system that calculates rates based on various factors. Prices can rise from one day to the next, but they can also suddenly plumet or skyrocket. Choosing the right time to sell is therefore crucial.
It is essentially a gamble whether you wait another day hoping for better prices or sell your turnips immediately. Prices can soar at any time, but they can crash just as quickly.
However, there is an important restriction. Turnips can only be sold while fresh. Over time, they begin to rot. As soon as a turnip is harvested, the clock starts ticking. Regardless of whether it is in your inventory or in a chest, the turnip will rot within a few days and can no longer be sold on the market after that.

To start breeding turnips, you will need some equipment. First, you need a Turnip Growbox. This is a new block where your turnips are planted. Once you have placed a Turnip Growbox, you can use Turnip Seeds to plant a turnip there.
For a turnip seed to actually grow into a turnip, the Turnip Growbox must be watered. For this purpose, there is a new item called the watering can. Much like a bucket, the watering can must be filled with water and can then irrigate a Turnip Growbox for 12 hours. Alternatively, there is a golden watering can. This waters the plant with golden water droplets which last twice as long.
Your turnip continues to grow even when your island is not loaded. The only important thing is that the Turnip Growbox remains watered. If the Turnip Growbox dries out, the plant stops growing. If it remains dry for too long, the turnip may wither and become unusable. It is therefore important to check on your turnips regularly so that they grow and do not perish.

When a fully grown turnip is harvested, there is a small chance that additional Turnip Seeds will drop. If a turnip remains dry for too long and rots, the rotten turnip can still be harvested to potentially obtain new seeds. If a harvested turnip rots, it can also be crafted back into seeds.
Additionally, fertilizer can be used to ensure that your turnip grows twice as fast for a few hours, allowing you to advance your turnip breeding significantly faster.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s Captain Tuber! From now on, he can appear at your Island Market, and he has an endless hunger for beetroots. Captain Tuber needs beetroots to craft soups for his superpowers. Since he is getting on in years, he requires quite a large batch at once. Trade your beetroots with him, and with a bit of luck, he will leave you useful items for your turnip breeding as a thank you, such as seeds, watering cans, or fertilizer.

To make Captain Tuber appear on your island for the first time, speak with the Turnip Mouse next to the Auction House at /spawn. She offers a questline centered around Captain Tuber and the turnips, which will introduce you to turnip breeding step by step and explain all the important features. Additionally, you will receive all the necessary items there that you need to get started with your turnip breeding.

In addition to these methods, you can also obtain extra tools for your turnip breeding, such as Turnip Growboxes, seeds, fertilizer, and golden watering cans, from Treasure Chests.
A thunderstorm is brewing on your Skyblock island? In the future, this could help you achieve new wealth! During a storm, there is a small chance that lightning will strike your turnip. This triggers a random mutation of the turnip, which can vary in weight and shape. There is also a small chance that the turnip will become gilded!
Thunderstorms can only occur on Skyblock if no static weather is set, which is the default setting. Additionally, the probability of thunderstorms has been significantly increased with this update. Nevertheless, storms remain rare and occur on Skyblock on average only every four to five hours.

Mutated turnips not only look cooler but also fetch significantly higher prices at the Turnip Market. The current turnip price is either multiplied or increased by an added bonus based on the mutation.
If the size of your turnip mutates and it becomes overweight, the turnip price is multiplied by up to 5x based on the weight.
During a mutation, the turnip can also take on a new shape, which in turn increases the base price of the turnip. Currently, the following shapes exist:

With a golden turnip, the price is further multiplied by a factor of 10, making it an extremely rare event! With the right mutations, a single turnip can be worth several million coins. The longer you keep the plants alive through regular irrigation, the higher the chance of a lightning strike and thus for mutations.
But beware: if the patch dries out, there is always the danger of the plant rotting. The longer you want to keep a turnip alive, the more watering cans you will consume. Is the investment worth it? Turnip breeding is a lot of fun, but it is certainly not for the faint of heart!
